Definition
Evidence is information that has been evaluated for relevance, credibility, reliability, and accuracy and can therefore support or challenge a business conclusion. Unlike raw data or isolated observations, evidence has been interpreted within the context of a specific question, decision, or hypothesis. Its value lies not merely in its existence but in its ability to strengthen understanding and reduce uncertainty.
Evidence may originate from many sources, including market research, customer interviews, financial analysis, operational data, controlled experiments, competitor intelligence, industry reports, and direct observation. No single source automatically constitutes strong evidence. Confidence increases when multiple independent sources consistently support the same conclusion.
Evidence should remain open to revision as new information becomes available. Strategic conclusions should evolve alongside the evidence supporting them rather than remaining fixed despite changing circumstances.
