Evidence Quality
Definition
Evidence Quality is the degree to which information is credible, reliable, relevant, timely, complete, and appropriate for supporting a specific business decision. High-quality evidence originates from trustworthy sources, follows sound methodology, can be independently verified where appropriate, and directly addresses the question being investigated.
Evidence Quality should not be evaluated solely according to source reputation. Even highly credible sources may become outdated or irrelevant depending on the decision context. Organizations therefore assess evidence according to multiple criteria, including methodological rigor, objectivity, recency, transparency, consistency with other findings, and applicability to the current business situation.
Evidence from multiple independent sources generally provides stronger support than isolated observations because convergence increases confidence while reducing dependence on any single source.
Why It Matters
The quality of strategic decisions is constrained by the quality of the evidence supporting them. Evaluating Evidence Quality improves analytical rigor, reduces bias, strengthens governance, and enables organizations to distinguish reliable conclusions from unsupported assumptions.
