Definition

PESTLE Analysis is a strategic framework used to evaluate the external macro-environment by examining six categories of factors that influence organizational performance: Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental.


Political factors include government policy, trade agreements, taxation, and geopolitical stability. Economic factors examine inflation, interest rates, economic growth, employment, and purchasing power. Social factors consider demographics, cultural values, education, lifestyle, and consumer behavior. Technological factors evaluate innovation, automation, digital transformation, and emerging technologies. Legal factors address regulation, compliance, labor law, intellectual property, and industry standards. Environmental factors examine sustainability, climate-related risks, natural resources, and environmental regulation.


PESTLE Analysis does not predict the future. Instead, it provides a structured method for identifying external forces that may create opportunities or risks affecting strategic decisions.
