Definition
Predictive Analytics is the use of statistical techniques, machine learning, historical data, and analytical models to estimate the probability of future events or outcomes. Rather than describing what has already happened, Predictive Analytics seeks to identify likely future patterns that support proactive business decision-making.
Organizations apply Predictive Analytics across numerous functions including demand forecasting, customer retention, fraud detection, pricing optimization, inventory planning, predictive maintenance, financial forecasting, marketing effectiveness, and risk assessment. Models continuously improve as additional data becomes available, allowing organizations to refine predictions over time.
Although Predictive Analytics estimates future probabilities, it does not eliminate uncertainty. Unexpected events, changing customer behavior, technological disruption, and external market conditions may influence actual outcomes beyond what models anticipate.
